My Top 10 Most Anticipated Manga of 2022

Happy New Year Everyone!

Earlier this week I made a post listing the manga I enjoyed most in 2021. Now it’s time to look ahead and discuss some of the manga releases I’m most looking forward to in 2022.

Please note that this list is covering new manga that will be coming out in North America in 2022 and that I’ll be focusing on physical releases. Nothing against digital, I just mostly read physical books.

Here are My Top 10 Most Anticipated Manga of 2022, in no praticular order!

10. Daily Report About My Witch Senapi

This manga caught my attention simply because it looks really cute. An office romance staring a witch and her adoring kohai, Daily Report About My Witch Senpai is about a young man who worries about his co-worker who is constantly using her magic powers to help others.

This sounds like a charming and wholesome little love story, and I can’t wait for it to enchant me.

9. The Case Files of Jeweler Richard

I really enjoyed The Case Files of Jeweler Richard anime and have been eager for more. Sadly, there’s been no news of a second season. Fortunately, the manga version has been licensed, so I’ll be able to satisfy my desire to see more of Richard and Seigi solving jewelry related mysteries together and continuing to never resolve the clearly romantic tension that exists between them. I hope the manga version will continue the story past where the anime left off, as I’d love to get more of their story.

8. Sakamoto Days

Sakamoto Days revolves around a once legendary assassin who retired to get married to the love of his life. He now lives a peaceful existence, spending his time running a store and sporting a dad-bod. These quiet, normal days won’t last for long, however. Someone from his past shows up out of the blue and seems determined to drag him back to the life of a hired killer. Will our hero be able to protect his family and his happiness?

I’ve heard quite a bit of positive buzz about this series and it looks like it will be a fun action comedy. I hope our middle-aged protagonist will be able to safeguard his peaceful new life!

7. The Dragon Knight’s Beloved

This fantasy manga features dragons, knights who ride dragons, and friends who must masquerade as lovers and will undoubtedly wind up falling in love for real. Basically, you had me at dragons.

I’d thought that The Dragon Knight’s Beloved was scheduled to come out in 2021, but I guess the release date was pushed back. Thankfully, I won’t have long to wait for this adorable-looking romance, as volume one should be coming out in early January!

6. 5 Seconds Before a Witch Falls in Love

Here’s another pick featuring witches!

5 Seconds Before a Witch Falls in Love is a yuri romance about a witch and the witch hunter she loves to tease – or maybe just straight-up loves. Enemies-to-lovers can be a very entertaining trope, and this looks like it should be a silly and amusing romantic romp. Here’s hoping it’s as cute as this cover implies!

5. The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbye: Ultramarine

There’s a rumor about Urashima Tunnel. Apparently, if you can find it and walk through it, you’ll find your heart’s desire on the other side – but at the cost of years off of your life.

The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbye: Ultramarine follows two students who find this mysterious tunnel and start experimenting with it. It sounds like an intriguing premise, and I’m looking forward to seeing where this supernatural story goes with it. I’m anticipating a real rollercoaster ride of emotions.

4. Island in a Puddle

Island in a Puddle is the newest supernatural drama from Kei Sanbe, the creator of Erased and For the Kid I Saw in My Dreams.

I don’t know a lot about this title, but I’ve really enjoyed the mangaka’s other works and am excited to start a new series from them. Hopefully, this will be just as thrilling as their other manga series!

3. The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: From Villainess to Savior

The isekai manga train continues to chug along and that’s fine by me, as I continue to enjoy the ride.

The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen follows another character who realizes that they’ve been reincarnated as the villainess of an otome game, only this villainess was the final boss of the game and has strong powers and intelligence. Using her abilities and knowledge about the original game, this villainess is determined to protect everyone and rewrite the future.

I admit it, I’m a sucker for these “reincarnated as the villainess” stories, and this one looks like a particularly fun addition to the genre. I’m excited to see a story about a villainess character who actually has kick-ass powers!

2. World End Solte

Magical pollution infests the land following a devastating war. An orphan named Solte, who lost her parents to this deadly menace, ventures into the time and space distorting pollution in search of answers. Will she find what she’s looking for, or will the pollution take her life first?

This fantasy adventure sounds exciting and trippy. Best of all, it’s by Satoshi Mizukami, the creator of Spirit Circle and Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer, two series’ that I absolutely love.

1. New York, New York

I first heard about New York, New York years ago while reading Paul Gravett’s Manga: Sixty Years of Japanese Comics. This 1990’s boys love manga follows the tumultuous love story between a New York City police officer and his boyfriend, who has a troubled past. This is considered a boys love classic, and I’m glad to see the series finally get an english release. I can’t wait to read it!

By the way, if the art looks familiar, that’s because Marimo Ragawa is the artist of The Vampire and His Pleasant Companions and the creator of Baby & Me. If her other works are anything to go by, I expect that New York, New York will make be cry buckets of tears.

  1. Wow, those look really good! I am absolutely with you on The Case Files of the Jeweler Richard. Loved the anime, but it left a lot of questions at the end of season one, I would love it if the manga went farther than the anime! I’m definitely going to pick this one up!
